Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in Physics prior to start of appointment.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
A minimum of two years postdoctoral experience is required for tenure-track Assistant Professor rank. Tenured appointments requires evidence of excellence scholarly research, teaching and professional service.

Position Summary:
The Department of Physics in the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks candidates for two positions the tenured or tenure-track level. Faculty positions include a commitment to excellence in scholarly research, teaching and service.

Principal duties:
The candidates will be expected to perform teaching of physics at all levels in the physics. Undergraduate and graduate classroom and individual instruction, as well as supervision of graduate thesis research, are required. The candidates will be expected to conduct high-impact scholarly research as well as provide service to the department, college, university and academic community nationally or internationally as appropriate for rank.

The department currently houses world-renowned programs in the energy and cosmic frontiers with leading roles in LHC experiments, searches for dark matter, cosmic-ray and neutrino astrophysics. The goal of this search is to broaden this base to include accelerator based neutrino program, and to strengthen its LHC program. We anticipate that the successful candidates take leading roles in the measurement of neutrino properties and the discovery new physics phenomena associated with them, or in the detailed characterization of the recently discovered Higgs boson and searches for new physics at the energy frontier. The successful candidate is expected to build on the UWMadison strengths in detector construction at its Physical Sciences Laboratory, in collaboration with the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
